See What Punk Storm Almost Looked Like in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE (2016) Concept Art by Phillip Boutte Jr.
Ororo Munroe aka Storm is a weather-controlling mutant that's been in the X-Men comic books since 1975. In 1983 Walt Simonson did a design for her with leather and a Mr. T mohawk. It was intended as a joke but the look stuck and became part of the character arc.
While Storm appeared in several X-Men movies played by Halle Berry she sported long hair and a pixie cut. But never the mohawk. When the series did a soft reboot of the franchise they cast Alexandra Shipp and the movie X-Men: Apocalypse introduced the signature punk hairstyle but omitted the leather punk look..
Talented artist Phillip Boutte Jr., who's been nominated for a "Concept Art Award" for his work on Jupiter's Legacy was given the task of the signature costume design along with costume designer Louise Mingenbach. He shared the artwork on his site.
"I've always loved Storm and was happy to get a chance to design a few things for her," he said on his Artstation page. "Hopefully, we will see punk Storm on the big screen someday soon!" Hopefully, when she's rebooted in the MCU they find a way to bring that look to the movie.
Boutte Jr. is a professional concept artist who's worked on Hollywood films like Black Panther (2018), A Wrinkle in Time (2018), and Inception (2010).
