This year has been a major shake-up for the industry and moviegoers have been reluctant to go to the cinema. So any movie during this time that holds a box office position is an accomplishment.
One movie that has managed to stay in the top ten is the Shawn Levy science-fiction comedy Free Guy starring Ryan Reynolds as a man who discovers that he lives in a video game. According to Variety, the movie is now number three after five weeks. The last movie to achieve this is Christopher Nolan's Tenet in total sales in the China market.
“Free Guy” retained its lead of the China box office for the third weekend in a row, and has now surpassed “Tenet” in local sales.
The movie has been extremely popular and a real money maker for the studio. Matthias Beeguer, a concept artist on the film shared some illustrations for the film for what he describes as "the final reveal of 'Life Itself' [a] utopian island hidden in the depth of the video game where Guy lives". I won't go into any more detail to avoid spoilers.
Matthias Beeguer is a professional concept artist who's worked on cinema films like Passengers (2016), Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018), and the upcoming She-Hulk Disney+ limied series.
