Jurassic Park (1993) concept art by Craig Mullins |
Update: I've been told that some of these pieces are not done by Craig Mullins. I've added credits to John Bell and Dave Negron Sr.
Every Friday I feature artwork from a classic of science fiction cinema or television. This week's "Flashback Friday" post is on Jurassic Park (1993).
With the upcoming sequel to Jurassic Park - called Jurassic World - coming this is a great time to check out some concept art from the first film. It shows some alternate looks at the raptors and T-Rex. For example, in the books, the Velociraptors are orange with black tiger stripes. They're done by artist extraordinaire Craig Mullins.
Mullins is an American digital painter, and leading international concept artist who's worked on big-budget movies like Armageddon (1998), Forrest Gump (1994), and The Matrix Revolutions (2003).

What do you think of the concept art? If you've seen Jurassic Park what do you think of the designs?

Cool! I remember very clearly learning one day as a kid that we actually have no way of knowing what dinosaur skin looked like. All artistic renderings are just a best guess. So there's really no reason they couldn't have had tiger stripes. Blew my young mind!
ReplyDeleteNice! Love the kid on the Triceratops lol :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful art. I wish they'd kept the raptors orange
ReplyDeleteThis is NOT all Craig Mullins art. The first piece ( signed ) is his for sure. The piece with the kid riding the triceratops and the T-rex piece I believe were done by Dave Negron Sr. I believe the piece with the triceratops in the left foreground and the rendering of the front of the park building I believe were done by John Bell.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up Benton since it's sometimes hard to source artwork. I'll update the post with the additional credits!
