Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) concept art by Arnaud Valette |
The most touching part of Guardians of the Galaxy was Peter Quill's (Chris Pratt) relationship with his mother. It comes up all through the film and plays an important part in the film. The biggest part is from the end when (SPOILER ALERT) Quill takes the Infinity Stone and starts getting overwhelmed by it's power. It almost kills him until Gamora tells him to take her hand. He flashes back to when he didn't have the courage to take his mother's hand in the hospital before she died and grabs hers. The scene is a visual spectacle and many talented artists helped to bring the film to life. One of them is Arnaud Valette. Valette is a French professional concept artist who's worked on Hollywood projects like Clash of the Titans (2010), Man of Steel (2013) and X-Men: First Class (2011).

An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits--Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. Beautiful work. Still haven't seen the movie... Guess I've gotta wait for DVD now.
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing and beautiful concept art! I enjoyed the movie, and loved the back story about Quinn's mother and how that shapes him.
ReplyDeleteIt's very clever how the artist conceptualized this and made it look very much like a space nebula or distant cluster of galaxies that materialize into the mother figure. Way too cool.
