Green Lantern (2011) Oan Male concept art by Alfonso de la Torre |
Check out Green Lantern concept art by Alfonso de la Torre!
Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens tomorrow and it continues the insanely successful Captain America film. One movie that didn't quite have the same impact was Green Lantern (2011). It was supposed to be a tent pole for a whole series of movies, but it was a box office bomb. Man of Steel writer David Goyer recently said he'd like to do a Green Lantern reboot saying, "I would love to do 'Green Lantern.' I really wanted to showcase Krypton as a truly alien world. That was one of the things I wanted to do from the beginning when I got involved in the project. At his heart, Superman’s always been a science fiction story. I wanted to lean into that, and so did Chris, and so did Zack, so I was just glad we were able to."
While the film was bad the concept is still sound, so I think it's great to look at the designs that helped shape the movie. One of the talented artists working on the film Alfonso de la Torre shared some concept art on his blog that were featured in the art book Constructing Green Lantern: From Page to Screen. You can see some designs for Green Lantern Corp members like Lin Canar, Hennu, Morro, Voz and others. Plus, see some of Hal Jordon's constructs that didn't make it into the film and what an Oan looked like without pants on.
Alfonso de la Torre is a professional concept artist who's worked on Hollywood movies like Snow White and the Huntsman (2012), Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (2013) and X-Men: First Class (2011).
