Recently it was announced that filming for the Black Panther sequel is temporarily halted. Actress Letitia Wright was hurt performing a stunt and the production has shut down till she can return early next year. Wright plays Shuri the sister of T'Challa.
In the comics and the movie, Shuri is the Princess of Wakanda, the daughter of T'Chaka and Ramonda. She's a brilliant engineer and the leader of the Wakandan Design Group. Shuri's primarily responsible for most of Wakanda's modern technology. Her wise-cracking style and humor won over audiences.
"Ruth wanted to make sure Shuri looked smart, strong, and confident," Philip says on his personal Instagram account. "She also needed to look fun, young, and cool!" He shared concept art from working on the film. Besides Shuri, he also shares designs of M'Baku, Queen Ramonda, Zuri, and various tribal elders.
Boutte Jr. is a professional concept artist who's worked on Hollywood movies like X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), and Inception (2010). He's also the co-founder of 9bcollective, the first black-owned concept art studio made up primarily of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) artists.
