Check out Arrow concept art by Andy Poon!
The new season of Arrow started last week and with it will come a whole new batch of superhero costumes. Concept artist Andy Poon has shown some of his amazing work for Arrow in the past, but there's one costume we won't see for a while: The Atom. In the comics, Atom is a superhero who has the ability to shrink to incredibly small sizes and grow normal again. This season former Superman Returns actor Brandon Routh will be playing Ray Palmer in season 3 of Arrow. In an interview with The DJ Tanner Show he said he's seen concept art of his superhero costume. Routh said, "It's a totally different suit and I haven't been in it yet, I've only seen drawings. It's a very different character and I really can't say too much about what the suit's going to look like - just that it's very different and I don't believe it has a cape, which doesn't really surprise anybody if you've seen The Atom in the comics." Poon confirmed it on his blog saying, "I can at least now say that yes I worked on it. He said it! The Atom!" When will we see the incredibly shrinking Routh? It's hard to say. When asked if Ray Palmer was going to shrink on Arrow producer Marc Guggenheim told GreenArowTV, "I think anything is possible. My instinct is that if Ray Palmer’s going to shrink, he’ll probably shrink on another show. With The Flash in existence, there’s no real compelling reason for us to do super powers on Arrow. We can bring characters to Flash to have super powers. We have plans for Ray that don’t involve shrinking, but our plans for Ray are actually really cool." So maybe it'll end up being on the Arrow spin-off The Flash.
Till then, let's look at concept art for two characters from Arrow: Arsenal, played by Colton Haynes, and Ravager, played by Summer Glau.

Arsenal
"So the long way was over, here is the concept for Arsenal. Season 3 of Arrow premiered on Wednesday this week and it was full of awesomeness and surprises. Roy finally made his debut as Arsenal in his full fancy outfit. When I say fancy, I mean fancy even Stephen Amell (Arrow) himself has joked about now he has the second coolest in one of his comic con appearances. I'm super happy how this one turns out in person and on screen, costume designer Maya Mani and her team did such an amazing job on it and definitely set a new high bar for the show. Go team Arrow!" - Andy Poon
Ravager
"This design was really fun to do as usual. I had to again do some further research on who she is, what she is like, how she looks to get a better core idea of what elements I must have in order for her to still read as Ravager in the Arrow-verse. The easy part was that Deathstroke has already been established, so she is essentially an extension of him but sleeker and sexier. We decided to have her abit more stealth and subtle than Deathstroke so shes only in black and abit or orange and without the blue. The make is the trickiest part for this character because they actually want to show part of her face unlike Deathstroke, so it naturally goes into a more superhero realm than the realistic side. Summer Glau's face also has a really strong structure, therefore framing her face without making her look too masculine was [a bit] challenging." - Andy Poon
Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

Official Arrow Synopsis
"After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he's become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel's father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver's own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine. The series stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, Colin Donnell as Tommy, Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Willa Holland as Thea Queen, with Susanna Thompson as Moira Queen and Paul Blackthorne as Detective Quentin Lance."

Nice work. I especially like the color scheme for Arrow.
ReplyDeleteYou know 'Arrow' has pleasantly surprised me. I'm super excited for Brandon Routh to come back home to DC. Great post. Love the design in this costume. Very utilitarian.
ReplyDeleteYou’re right MsMariah. It’s a surprisingly good show and I haven’t been disappointed with it yet!
