Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) concept art by Justin Sweet |
Justin Sweet is one of my favorite fantasy artists and his masterful brush strokes always take his concept art to a new level. Sweet just published concept art on his Facebook page and they're amazing. They include alternate looks of Groot, Drax, Gamora and others.
Justin Sweet is a professional concept artist who's worked on big budget films like The Avengers (2012), The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005) and Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant (2009).

Official Guardians of the Galaxy Summary
From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team--the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits--Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand--with the galaxy's fate in the balance.

The characters really evolved from the original concepts.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like the production really brought the concepts down to match the actors and mass appeal. (This is usually the case with genre film anyways)
ReplyDeleteAmazing designs. Much more alien than the final version. Very cool
