Robbie Consing Armageddon storyboard Sample

Check out Armageddon storyboards by Robbie Consing!

Every Friday I try and feature artwork from a classic of science fiction cinema or television. This week's "Flashback Friday" post is on Armageddon (1998).

The Michael Bay disaster film Armageddon got mixed reviews but was the highest-grossing film of 1998. In fact, it made more than Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan. It was also nominated for four Oscars including "Best Visual Effects." One of the artists that helped make those spectacular visuals possible was storyboard artist Robbie Consing. He shared a storyboard sequence from the film on his IMDb page.

Robert "Robbie" Consing is a professional production illustrator and storyboard artist who's worked on major movies like Transformers (2007), Iron Man 3 (2013) and Minority Report (2002).

Official Armageddon Summary
From the blockbuster-making team who produced and directed PEARL HARBOR and THE ROCK (Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay) comes the biggest movie of 1998 -- ARMAGEDDON! Starring the explosive talents of Bruce Willis (DIE HARD), Academy Award(R)-winners Ben Affleck (GOOD WILL HUNTING) and Billy Bob Thornton (SLING BLADE), Liv Tyler (INVENTING THE ABBOTTS), Steve Buscemi (CON AIR), and Will Patton (INVENTING THE ABBOTTS), ARMAGEDDON is a meteor storm of action-adventure moviemaking that has you on the edge of your seat forgetting to breathe! When NASA's executive director, Dan Truman (Thornton), realizes the Earth has 18 days before it's obliterated by a meteor the size of Texas, he has only one option -- land a ragtag team of roughneck oil drillers on the asteroid and drop a nuclear warhead into its core. Spectacular special effects, laugh-out-loud humor, great characters, riveting storytelling, and heartfelt emotion make ARMAGEDDON an exhilarating thrill ride you'll want to experience like there's no tomorrow.

  2. Something about seeing storyboards on pieces of paper is pretty awesome. The art is amazing, as it always is in this sort of thing.

  3. Armageddon came so close on the heels of Deep Impact that I was sort of burned out on that storyline. As such, I've never seen it. The storyboards are fun, though!
