Check out this video by Hugo Martin about working on Pacific Rim.
Pacific Rim will go down in history as one of the greatest giant robot monster movies ever made. Director Guillermo del Toro collected an army of concept artists to help him bring his vision to life and one of the talented artists is Hugo Martin. I already shared some of Hugo's Pacific Rim concept art, but here's a video from QuakeCon 2013 where he describes working on concept design for games and film.
Martin was a professional concept artist and art director who's worked on Hollywood blockbuster movies like The Avengers (2010) and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (2012) but this past May he left L.A. to become Art Director at id Software.
Check out the video "From Sketchbook to the Big Screen" after the jump and learn how he incorporated real anatomy into the robot designs.
The video is 40 minutes long, but he talks about working on Pacific Rim at about the 10 minute mark.
See more of Hugo Martin's portfolio at http://hugomartin.net and be on the look out for more great concept art on his video game work.

What do you think of the concept art? If you've seen Pacific Rim what did you think?
Official PACIFIC RIM Synopsis
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
