Ten Rings Secret Origin in SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS Concept Art by Jeremy Love

Check out Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings concept art by Jeremy Love!
In the movie, "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" the origin of the Rings is shrouded in mystery. The movie starts with Xu Wenwu fighting over the centuries with his powerful rings. They don't show where he gets them. The only hint is the voiceover which says, "some say he found the rings in a crater or stole them from a tomb". Apparently, there was a more extensive opening planned. Read on to find out what it was thanks to concept art shared by Jeremy Love.

Love is a professional concept artist who's worked on Hollywood films like Mortal Kombat (2021), Aquaman (2018), and Alien: Covenant (2017).

"Xu Wenwu breaks into the palace treasure room during the Qingming Festival. This a deleted flashback scene showing the Mandarin coming across the rings while stealing the 'Wands of Watoomb'", Love said on his personal ArtStation site. "I did a quick pass on what the other 6 wands might look like. He spots a glowing box off in a corner of the treasure room [that] contains the rings. He then uses the rings to escape."

In the comics, the "Wands of Watoomb" are mystical objects that exist across the dimensions. They are one-foot-long crystalline batons with heads carved on either end. The wands first appear in Amazing Spider-Man Annual #2 (1965) by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

They first appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Doctor Strange (2016). When Wong uses them to fight Kaecilius and his Zealots.

Here are some other illustrations from key moments in the film including a deleted scene of Wenwu coming home to his village.
