The image is intentionally obscured with a filter on the right-side, but we can still make out a figure and a large ship.

Like the previous film it's inspired by a comic book series. In the 1995 comic book an alternate timeline has the mutant Apocalypse taking over North America and turning mutants into a ruling class and killing millions of humans. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Singer revealed that the movie will be set in 1983 and the plot will be partially based on the “Age of Apocalypse” comic though "[the movie] won’t necessarily create an alternate universe." He also said that the movie will be bigger that Days of Future Past saying, "You won’t feel at the end of the movie that it set up Apocalypse. What it does is it sets up possibilities. But what we’ll discover in Apocalypse is that events in this movie made that happen. … Apocalypse deals with ancient mutancy. What would humans have thought mutants were? What would mutants think humans were? You’re dealing with gods and things like that. And what if one survived and what if that found its way into our world?"

In the comics, En Sabah Nur or "the morning light" is born 5,000 years ago and becomes the first known mutant and has the ability to manipulate objects on the molecular level. It's speculated that the artwork shows Ship, who's an alien A.I. program that Apocalypse enslaved to use it's futuristic technology.

  1. Cool. I love the distortion from, I assume, the ship's exhaust.

  2. I'm conflicted about Apocalypse. I loved the idea of the original mini-series but it was revisited so many times that I look back at it as my jumping off point from comics. It took me a long time to come back and even then my superhero purchasing was limited.

That being said, I have enjoyed the X-Men movies, so.....
